Altona Yacht Club was established in 1953 as a family small boat sailing club serving the local community.
The first club facilities, built by members, were completed in 1961. The ethos of "family and active member participation" continues to the present day. Altona Yacht Club is a 100% volunteer run organisation, with the majority of members and participants calling the Western Suburbs home.
Our mission is to:
- Promote - the sport of sailing to our community
- Offer pathways - to participation through structured training and support for new sailors
- Engage - with local clubs and community groups for mutual support and benefit
- Host - well managed training, racing, events and regattas via highly competent volunteer support crews
- Build - a friendly and welcoming club family
- Sustain - a club for future generations
